Hey, welcome back. Do you recall I started this health journey with, I mean, every day's been a health journey, but specifically a protocol back in January. So if you're unfamiliar with that, just go back through the shows. I'm sure there's more than one where I discuss it. Well, the long and the short of it is I had some histology come back bad a few times, like, bad meaning my cervical cells were abnormal multiple times even after I've had a leak procedure. But the more concerning was my blood work. I was showing that I had insulin resistance. And there was a little bit of inflammation, not a ton, but also my thyroid was showing that it had antibodies.
So although my thyroid function was totally fine, there were still antibodies in there. So that's the first sign that your body is on defense and thinks it needs to defend itself from itself. So no bueno. Anyway, that's where the keto journey and there were like, there's multiple things I was working on, but the keto journey began and that was horrible. and I will update you in a few weeks about why that was so horrible. Not just because there were no carbohydrates and it was higher fat, but I got a genetic test done. And I'm to do a whole episode about that later. the genetic test revealed that just genetically, I do not do well with low carbohydrate diets. In fact, it said the best diet for me would be a Mediterranean one. So and it specifically said higher carbohydrates, moderate protein, moderate to lower protein, and moderate fats.
So now that I know, I thought, gosh, did I just not do this right? Everybody says keto is supposed to be so amazing. You're supposed to have all this energy. And I was like, girl, that is not what I had. It was awful. But I did it for a full month and two weeks. I barely got into an actual nutritional ketosis. But if you're not tracking that kind of stuff, I promise you are not getting into ketosis. Like it actually deserves a whole lot of attention and intentionality to get into a nutritional ketosis. Okay, moving on. So I did that and then I attempted to do the water fast. And again, that was pretty much disastrous because my body was not ready for that.
All right, moving on, I had an entire regimen of immune boosting supplements that I had to take for two months, okay? And I actually felt amazing taking those things. I think it helped tremendously. But the next supplement that I was supposed to take after that is called NAD +, okay?
So we're gonna talk about that, that I know it sounds super sciency, but it's actually super important for your energy, sleep, mood, even aging, okay? So NAD +, that's short for nicotinamide adenine dinucleotide. So don't worry, there's no cause at the end, but here's the deal. NAD plus is a molecule. Okay, your body makes it naturally and it's basically like the spark plug in your cells. It helps to turn the food we eat into energy and supports things like brain function, muscle recovery, metabolism, and even how your body repairs itself. That's what it should be doing when you're sleeping. So here's the kicker. As we get older, yes, even in your 30s, NAD plus levels drop right along with everything else. Your boobs, your face, your skin, your butt, it all drops.
All right, that can mean that you have less energy, slower recovery, and this like, why am I tired after one errand kind of feeling.
So here's the good news. There's always a way to support your body. And usually through supplements, NAD plus is one of those, like a lifestyle change and even skincare supports your body. NAD plus can do the same thing. So NAD plus is like giving your body a little power up so that you can do all the things like working, life, parenting, maybe even finish your coffee in the morning while it's still hot. So I started taking this. All right, I'm taking the oral, the liposomal. I get it from I think it's called row. It's our HO I'll put the link in the show notes for the particular company that I got it from if I could do it again And I can once this whole supply is over. I would probably get the injectable Because I hear it's better and if you are compromised in your gut Absorbability anyway, and I don't know that I am I had my gut testing that like I said I haven't met with my nutritionist yet to go over that.
And by the way, if you guys hear me talking, it's kind of funny. I have Invisalign now. I forgot to tell you about that. I got Invisalign this past Monday. So by the time you hear this, it'll be a couple of weeks and I will have changed out the retainer for the next tighter fit. But I'm really trying to just talk normal. But you got to keep these things in like 22 hours a day. You can only take them out for two hours a day. And that's basically if you're drinking anything that isn't water and if you're eating, obviously you can't chew in them.
So I'm really working on keeping them in. So that means I'm recording a podcast episode with them in. So if you hear a little bit of a lisp, that's where it's coming from is that I'm wearing the retainers.
Anyway, back to NAD+. I did get the oral solution because I've done two months of work on my gut. However, if your gut is compromised and you need the benefit of NAD +, I would probably use the injectable kind. Okay, I hear it stings a little. But it's supposed to be super, super effective. Speaking of injectables, I am also doing a BPC 157. I think I talked about that already. That's an injectable. I am not seeing benefits from that per se, but my blood sugar is starting to go down. And that particular peptide, it's supposed to be for muscle, ligament repair and recovery because I've got this weird knee thing going on and like my left shoulder is like my rotator cuff. And then there's some, I don't know, connection point in my lower left arm, that's all tweaked out and has been for like a year and it's just really slow to heal because I use my arms for everything and I can't not use my arms. I have seven kids. So there you go in pots and pans and cast iron. You know what I'm That ish is heavy. So there we are. NAD plus. That's what the show is about today. Here's my experience with it so far. I've been taking it for about a week and for the first couple of days I thought I experienced no benefit from it whatsoever.
Now look, it's not going to completely overhaul your life if you didn't get any sleep the night before and you're not, you're completely dehydrated, you haven't eaten, like I don't know anything that's going to, except maybe methamphetamine. And I don't suggest taking that or Adderall. And I also don't suggest taking that. I don't know anything that's going to overhaul that level of exhaustion, but in the last couple of days, I have noticed that I just feel sharper. and I increased my creatine. I know I've said a lot already.
I increased my creatine from five grams up to 10 grams because although the muscle support doesn't change a whole lot past the five grams, which is like eating 15 chicken breasts, the cognitive support, which is really what I need. I don't know about you guys, okay, but I'll be 43 in a couple of months and I have seven kids. I'm running multiple businesses. My husband is gone about 85 to 90 % of the time. So I need my cognition to be on.
I need to remember things. I mean I put things on my calendar, but nonetheless like we got to remember things We got I just got to be there. I got to be on task I got to get to the next thing and it's very it's very busy It's just always busy and it's fine. So long as my brain is firing on all You know 15 cylinders. I'm just gonna say 15 to be generous But if it's not like this whole kingdom, I've got going over here like it crumbles Okay, because I'm the only adult here to keep things moving and my two my three teens, they're great, but they have their own lives. mean, gosh, my oldest son is gonna be a senior next year. He's wrestling. He's got a job interview next week. My daughter plays in the orchestra. She's gonna be dual enrolled with college and high school next year. And she works out. She's gonna start babysitting. She's also potentially got a job at a restaurant around here. Like people are doing things in this house. All right, we're moving and shaking over here. Anyway, if you've ever considered getting a supplement, that mimics and enhances what your body already does but starts declining as you get older and you don't want to turn to more caffeine because that's going to affect you later on in the evening. I mean, the half-life of caffeine is something like eight or nine hours. I think you should give NAD Plus a try. I don't have a coupon code or anything for it. Tons of people do. You can probably look it up on the internet, but I am experiencing a little cognitive boost from the NAD Plus.
There you go. That's what it is. That's what it could do for you. And so far that's my experience. I'll let you know if anything changes. But in the meantime, you guys stay strong out there. I know things are a little wackadoodle in this world right now, but listen, we're all going to be okay. Okay. I got your back. Talk to you soon, mommas. Stay strong.
